Managing My Career Goals Managing Your Career - 942 Words
In this day and age, we live in an economical environment that is constantly changing in terms of competition, and as a result, has made leading a managerial career unpredictable. This is not to say that being successful in a managerial position has become impossible, but to say that in order to be successful, it is important now too look at individuals manage their careers going forward to be as successful as possible. In the article Managing Your Career, we attempt to examine and understand how managers learn and develop over the course of their careers, identify factors that allow managers to choose the right positions, how managers create success, the development of an ethical judgment, and how we can assess our careers. Managers inâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Studies have also shown that effectiveness in leadership and ability to gain experience through learning is higher in situations that are stressful, dramatic, and unexpected. Leaders cannot be the best and most effective leaders coming from situations that are not strenuous because they lack the experience that arises from difficult situations and the thought process that ensues in trying to solve difficult situations. Self-reflection is also important for managers and management to take part in because that allows them to analyze more thoroughly examine their own behavior, attitude and values. This coupled with constructive criticism from their peers allow the best opportunity for managers to grow into the best managers they can be. When choosing the position that is best for ourselves, we should ask ourselves two questions. First, ââ¬Å"how [well] do we fit between who [we] are and the position; [Second], how good is the fit between who [we] are and who [we] want to beâ⬠(pg.4). We ideally want something that is a perfect fit, but the opposite is much more beneficial in terms of a personal development perspective. Although it is riskier to choose a position that doesnââ¬â¢t quite fit perf ectly, and opens the door to negative impact, it allows for managers to be gain ââ¬Å"new knowledge, skill, perspective, and judgmentâ⬠(pg. 4). With that said, it is important for managers to be aware of their strengths and weaknesses in order to make the best decision
